Taking place on Saturday, September 19, Washington Carnival has a range of free activities for children and families including balloon modelling, climbing wall, circus skills, magic shows, face painting, arts and crafts workshops, Meccano modelling and blacksmithing

Visitors can catch up with local history in the heritage tent with photographs and memorabilia from the formative years of the town on display.

There will also be a display of classic cars and plenty of traditional fairground rides.

One of the main attractions this year will be on stage musical performances from local performers including Sophie Gordon and her guitarist Jordan, female-fronted band Celtic Man, and live singer Alex Hall.

Colin Liddle, event manager, said: “It’s great to see the number of residents returning to the event year on year and for the 2026 event we have the return of the stage with musical performances from local performers including Sophie Gordon and her guitarist Jordan, female-fronted band Celtic Man, and live singer Alex Hall across the day.

“Local traders will be selling their handmade items and local charities will be in attendance to raise awareness of their work for local causes which brings together a full family day of entertainment.”
