Patient airlifted to hospital after 'serious' multi-vehicle crash closes part of A194M
Northumbria Police, Tyne and Wear FIre and Rescue Service, the Great North Air Ambulance and Highways England have been called following a collision involving a car and a truck on Wednesday, February 19.

Hide AdIt is not clear how many vehicles have been affected by the incident.
A spokeswoman for the police force said: “At 2.08pm today (Wednesday) we received a report of a two-vehicle collision between a car and a truck on the A194 at Blackfell, Washington, near the A195 turn-off.
“Air ambulance has been deployed to the scene. Injuries are not yet known. Significant traffic delays are expected.”

Hide AdThe Great North Air Ambulance confirmed that it landed on the scene at around 2.55pm, with its paramedic and doctor team assisting and treating a patient at the scene.
The patient was then airlifted to hospital.
Northumbria Police said a 19-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where she is being monitored in its high dependancy unit.
Highways England confirmed on social media that the road was closed northbound between junctions two and three, with a diversion in place due to the “serious collision”.
It was reopened in both directions shortly after 5pm.

Hide AdMotorists are advised to follow the diversion symbol and exit the A194M using Follingsby Interchange and take the first exit onto the A195 northbound.
They can then travel north on the A195 to A184, turn onto the A184 eastbound and travel east to A194 Whitemare Pool Interchange to re-join the A194M.
Fire crews from Newcastle Central, Washington and Hebburn stations were also sent to the incident.
