Rail customers can bag discounted tickets between key northern towns and cities, including London, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Preston and Blackpool.
The Great British Rail Sale has returned with millions of discounted tickets for train passengers, including on Northern, TPE and Avanti West Coast services.
From today (January 6) until January 12, passengers will be able to buy reduced advance fares for travel between January 13 and March 25 2026, with many journeys starting or finishing in the North of England included.
The nationwide promotion will see more than three million tickets made available, with savings of 50% or more on a wide range of routes. Discounted fares will be available through usual ticket-buying channels, including online, via apps, at stations and ticket offices, with nearly all train operators across Britain taking part.
Examples of the deals available in the North of England include Northern's train services to Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport for £1.20, Liverpool Lime Street to Wigan North Western for £1.60 and Newcastle to Middlesbrough for £2.

Avanti West Coast is offering up discounts on 100,000 tickets, including London to Liverpool from £21.50, London to Manchester from £28.50 and London to Preston from £30.50.
Across the TransPennine Express (TPE) network, customers can purchase tickets for up to 50% off, such as Edinburgh to Newcastle available from £4.20 and Liverpool to Sheffield from £4.70.
Transport Secretary, Heidi Alexander, said: “The Rail Sale is back – and it means further discounts for passengers as we freeze rail fares for the first time in 3 decades to help ease the cost of living.
“We all want to see cheaper rail travel, so whether you’re planning a half-term getaway, or visiting friends or family, this sale offers huge reductions.
“It’s all part of our plans to build a railway owned by the public, that works for the public.”
