Sunderland expert launches book on Gen Z in the workplace - here's what she has to say
The book challenges workplace assumptions about Gen Z.
“There’s so much noise about Gen Z in the workplace, much of it starting from the false assumption that they’re difficult to manage or don’t want to work like previous generations,” says a Sunderland HR expert as she launches a new book on the subject.

Author Louise Kennedy recently hosted a launch event for new book, Mind the Generation Gap: How Gen Z Is Changing the Future of Work.
The launch event, called Mind the Generation Gap: Creating the Future-Ready Workplace, brought together business leaders, HR professionals, and community members for an open discussion about Gen Z, changing workplace expectations and the evolving future of work.
The evening featured a panel discussion hosted by Louise, alongside guest panellists: Steven Parker, founder and Managing Director, Phonetic Digital; Kirsty Ostel, Managing Director, O Agency; Laura Middleton, Entrepreneur, investor and business consultant; and Business and Marketing graduate, Lauren Turner.
Together, the panel shared diverse experiences, perspectives, and practical insights on bridging generational divides, challenging workplace assumptions, and fostering collaborative multi-generational teams.
Louise, who is founder and director of Sunderland-based Oculus HR, said: “The response to the book launch and our panel event has been overwhelming, proving just how urgently managers want practical solutions to generational friction.
“Bringing different generations together in the same room to listen to one another and challenge assumptions is at the very core of what Mind the Generation Gap is all about.

“But every generation has entered the workforce with different expectations. The challenge for leaders isn’t deciding who has it right but understanding those differences to create an environment where everyone can perform and thrive together.”
The book, published in paperback and e-book formats on Amazon, draws on Louise’s 20-plus years of experience helping employers navigate workplace dynamics.
She says it tackles one of the most critical people management issues facing businesses today: bringing different generations together to build empathetic, high-performing teams.
Mind the Generation Gap: How Gen Z Is Changing the Future of Work, grew out of Louise’s popular podcast of the same name, where she speaks with guests across different age groups about their workplace experiences, expectations, and common stereotypes.
Louise added: “This isn’t about treating people differently because of their age or putting everyone into generational boxes. Quite the opposite. It’s about recognising that people enter the workplace with unique experiences, asking better questions, and giving managers the confidence to lead the individual in front of them.”
