Warning after Tyne Pedestrian and Cyclist Tunnels close following lift failtures

Customers have been warned that the Tyne Pedestrian and Cyclist Tunnels will be closed until the start of next week.

A statement on behalf of tunnel operator TT2 on Saturday, October 24, confirmed that they have been shut after both vertical lifts failed.

The statement added: “It is expected that they will remain closed until midday on Monday, October 26.

"A replacement shuttle bus will be in operation tomorrow (Sunday, October 25) and Monday (9am-6pm).”
