New chapter for Seaham as Wellness Works community hub opens

A brand new community hub has opened its doors in Seaham offering affordable food, a free children’s playroom and a welcoming space for all.

Wellness Works Community Hub CIC, based at the old Methodist Church on Tempest Road, in Seaham, officially opeed its doors to the public on Saturday, October 10.

The opening was attended by the Mayor of Seaham, Councillor Milford Lingard, as well as volunteers and members of the community.

Wellness Works was first set up by Audrey Huntley earlier this year to provide a safe and supportive space for local residents to come together to help reduce loneliness and isolation, improve wellbeing, access affordable activities and build stronger community connections.

Audrey said: “At the heart of Wellness Works is a simple belief – nobody should have to feel alone and everybody deserves somewhere they feel welcome.”

Plans are currently underway for a range of activities over the coming months for young children, teenagers and adults.

Audrey said: “The aim is to create opportunities for families to bond, learn new skills, enjoy shared experiences and make memories together.”

The hub also has a community cafe that offers affordable food and drinks and a free playroom for children to play while parents and carers spend time in the cafe.

Speaking about Wellness Works, Audrey said: “It is about bringing people together and helping to build a stronger, more connected community.

“Whether someone has recently moved into the area, lives alone, has family living elsewhere, is experiencing isolation or is simply finding everyday life difficult, the hub hopes to provide a place where they can feel comfortable walking through the door.

“The team also recognises the importance of families spending quality time together.”

Audrey continued: “Everyone is welcome at Wellness Works Community Hub CIC.

"Whether you come for an affordable meal, a coffee, a place for your children to play, an activity or simply a chat with someone new, the doors are open.”

Donations are also welcome to help support the work of the hub.

A donation box is available in the cafe for anyone who would like to contribute.
