Kids eat free at Sunderland's Tesco cafe this summer
Tesco is extending its Kids Eat Free scheme to include weekends for the first time this summer, allowing thousands of families to enjoy free meals for their children.
Tesco Cafe, in Newcastle Road, Roker, is participating in the company-wide scheme which is running seven days a week until September 1.
The Café will be offering one free kids hot meal deal, kids breakfast or kids pick ‘n’ mix deal with any full price adult purchase when customers scan their Tesco Clubcard.
Claire De Silva, head of communities at Tesco, said: “We know that household budgets can be really stretched, especially over the long summer holiday, so offering free meals to children during this time is just one of the ways we can support families.”

Tesco has also brought back Free Fruit for Kids this summer, where children will be able to pick up free apples at checkouts in store until August 30.
Through its Free Fruit and Veg for Schools programme, Tesco has also been supporting children’s nutrition all year round.
This year saw more than 500 schools receive free fruit and vegetables to help pupils get more of their five-a-day.
Since its creation in 2024, 15.7 million portions of fruit and vegetables have been donated.
The Fruit & Veg for Schools programme, Free Fruit for Kids in stores and Tesco Fruit and Veg Grants are all helping Tesco achieve its ambition of helping one million children get more fruit and vegetables into their diets.
There is no limit on the number of kids meals that can be redeemed.
