RSPCA officers were alerted by a passer-by to the animal’s plight in Aspley Close, in Sunderland, and took him to a vets where the twine, which had cut into his legs, was removed.
Inspector Terri-Ann Fannon said: “I’ve no idea how this poor cat ended up so tangled but thankfully he wasn’t badly injured.

The adult male cat, who has now been named Bagheera, is in the care of the charity’s Sunderland, Hartlepool and South Tyneside branch.
Alex Stafford, animal welfare rehoming co-ordinator at the branch, said: “He is still really scared but we can tell he is grateful for his comfy, warm bed and fresh food and water.
"He will not leave his bed for anything.
“He has a long way to go in terms of socialisation but we will be giving him plenty of TLC and patience to get him into his perfect forever home when the time comes.
"He is an absolutely beautiful cat.”
