Crown court date for man charged with murder of Sunderland grandad David Wilson

A man was today remanded in custody charged with murder of a former special constable from Sunderland

Daniel Johnson, 20, is charged with murdering David Wilson, who was found dead at his flat in Southwick Road, Sunderland, on December 14, 2014.

Johnson, whose address was given as Howe Street, Gateshead, appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates Court this morning wearing a grey sweat top.

He made no plea to the charge.

Magistrates remanded Johnson in custody and he is due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday.

Mr Wilson, aged 49, had been stabbed to death.

District judge Roger Elsy told him: "I can't grant bail. You will b remanded until Friday, July 22, and his case will be sent to the Crown Court."
