After a trial at Newcastle Crown Court he was convicted of a series of offences including rapes and sexual assaults.

Jackson, 39 of Lowther Street, Chester le Street, County Durham, admitted possessing extreme pornography in relation to images of adults engaging in sex acts with a horse and a donkey.

In an impact statement, one of Jackson's victims said she felt relief that he now cannot harm anyone else and urged other people with similar experiences to speak out.

She told the court: "There are people who want to help and will listen."

Jackson could be seen smirking as prosecutor Andrew Finlay outlined the case against him and the victims read their impact statements.

Judge Robert Spragg said: "The consequences for both victims are long lasting."I praise their courage in bringing you to justice and protecting other potential victims in future."

The judge said no sentence is enough to repair the damage caused by Jackson and told him: "You are a high risk of direct contact sexual offending and a high risk to children.

"You are a high risk to the public."

Judge Spragg said the 23 year jail is not enough to protect the public in future and imposed a five year extended licence period with lifelong sex offender registration.

Lorraine Mustard, defending, said Jackson was aware he faced a lengthy sentence.

The court heard Jackson has no other convictions, a good work record and some family support.
