Police cordon remains round scene of New Year's Day assault as three men appear in court over attack

Durham Constabulary confirmed today, Wednesday, January 6, it had charged three men with grievous bodily harm in connection with the suspected assault.

Hide AdThey were each given conditional bail and told their next appearance will be before Durham Crown Court, on Monday, February 8, with no pleas taken during today’s hearing.
Meanwhile a number of police vehicles remained in the street, with a cordon in place at the rear of one home and the door panel damaged at the front of the property.
Durham Constabulary had said that while there was nothing to suggest a risk to the wider community, residents would see a presence in the area as the investigation continues.

Hide AdThe attack is being investigated by the force’s Major Crime Team.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Thubron, who is leading inquiries, said: “This was an extremely quick but violent assault targeted at the victim.”
