Three men due in court as man continues to fight for life after 'violent' assault on New Year's Day

Three men are to appear before court charged in connection with a New Year’s Day assault which has left another man fighting for his life.

A 28-year-old was taken to hospital with serious head injuries and remains in a critical condition today, Wednesday, January 6.

Men aged 28, 22 and 19 have now been charged with grievous bodily harm and will appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Police want to speak to this wanted Peterlee man as part of a burglary inquiry

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Thubron said: “This was an extremely quick but violent assault targeted at the victim.

“There is nothing to suggest the wider community are at risk however residents will see a continued police presence in the area as the investigation continues.”

Anybody with information can contact the Major Crime Team on 101 quoting incident number 224 of January 1.
