Police are investigating a suspected assault on New Year’s Day which left a man fighting for his life.

Durham Constabulary is searching for people who saw the incident, which happened shortly after 10.30am on Friday, January 1, in Dodds Close, Wheatley Hill,

A 33-year-old man was taken to hospital with head injuries and he remains in a critical condition.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 224 of January 1, or Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.
