Pals jailed after launching vile joint rape attack on woman

Two pals who raped a woman in a "vile" joint attack after she rejected their offer of a threesome have been put behind bars.

Taylor Dove, who was on bail for an earlier rape of a different woman, and Vieri Chapman, aka Jevonni Copley, who worked as a model and DJ, took turns to have sex with the victim while the other held his hand over her mouth.

Newcastle Crown Court heard the woman was left "bleeding and distraught" after the shocking ordeal.

She said in an impact statement: "They dehumanised me.

"After they raped me I was determined not to feel like a victim, I didn't want what they did to me to define how I feel or define me as a person.

"I wanted to be myself still. This didn't work.

"When I was alone all I could think about was what they had done to me.

"I didn't want it to affect anything in my life but it ended up affecting everything in my life."

Chapman, 25, of Wansbeck Road, Gosforth, Newcastle, denied rape but was convicted after a trial and has been jailed for ten years.

Dove, 22, of Balmoral Terrace, Grangetown, Sunderland, was convicted or rape and sexual assault, which he denied.

He was also found guilty of an earlier rape on a different woman, who said the attack "destroyed my life" and left her a "shell of the person I was".

Dove was jailed for a total of 12 years.

Both men have to sign the sex offenders register for life.

Judge Julie Clemitson said the woman who was raped by both men had made it clear she "wasn't interested" in a threesome but Dove was "clearly determined" to have the experience, which Chapman claimed to have had before.

Judge Clemitson said: "The two of you engaged in a series of sexual acts she did not consent to.

"Neither of you bothered at any stage to ask if whether what you wanted to do was ok.

"She was violated in the most vile way, by two men at the same time."

The judge added: "No wonder she was incapable of pushing you off or expressing any verbal lack of consent.

"Had you both bothered to look at her rather than playing tag you would have noticed she was crying, that the gasps for breath were not pleasure but distress."

Judge Clemitson said alcohol played a part in the attack but the men put their own desires first and left the victim "bleeding and distraught".

The judge added that neither of them have shown any remorse or insight into their behaviour.

Jamie Adams, defending Dove, handed in a bundle of character references who describe him as a "lovely natured boy", "kind and polite" and willing to help people who need it.

Mr Adams said: "There is actually a very good person inside here.

"He is not some paedophillic older brute."

Laura Miller, defending, Chapman, said he had a modelling contract and worked as a DJ but added: "He does not have family support."

The court heard Chapman has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
