Forensic team at second Wearside street as investigation into death of man, 55, continues


A 55-year-old man has died after suffering serious injuries in Penshaw shortly after 3am on Saturday morning (May 16).
Police officers have arrested three men aged 47, 38 and 36, in connection with the incident, who all remain in custody at this time.

Hide AdA large police cordon was in place on Avondale Avenue, in Penshaw, as a police investigation into the man’s death was launched.
Now, pictures show a forensic team is also at another address in Penshaw.
Northumbria Police has confirmed that the presence of police and the forensics team is in connection with the death of the 55-year-old.
Police were initially called at 3.05am on Saturday, May 16, to a report of concern for a 55 year old man on Avondale Avenue, Penshaw.

Hide AdEmergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Sadly, he died as a result of his injuries.
Officers have since arrested three men aged 47, 38 and 36, in connection with the incident, who all remain in custody at this time.
Detective Chief Inspector Sharon Chatterton said: “A team of experienced detectives are carrying out an investigation into this incident as we look to ensure anyone responsible is brought to justice.
“Specialist officers are currently supporting the family and we would ask that their privacy be respected at this time.
