The owner of an independent cake and coffee shop, which became known for its colourful array of cakes, has sadly announced its closure.

Baker and city businesswoman Patrycja Niesporek, known as Pati, has announced that she be will closing her PatiCake Patisserie shop on Tunstall Road, on its approach to the city centre, later this month, on July 31.
Pati opened the shop with her late husband Ariel in 2019 after transforming the fireplace shop and it became well-known for its creative cakes, Polish specialities, afternoon teas and occasion cakes.
Announcing the closure on Facebook, Pati says it’s time to start a new chapter and that people will still be able to enjoy her PatiCake cakes at food markets, including those at Sunderland Train Station, Bridges Shopping Centre, and Dalton Park Market.

“Your kindness, loyalty, and lovely feedback have meant more to me than words can express. After a lot of thought, I've decided that it's time to put myself first and start a new chapter.
“Because of that, PatiCake will be closing on 31st July. This isn't goodbye though! You'll still be able to enjoy my cakes at Sunderland Train Station, Bridges Shopping Centre, and Dalton Park Market.
“This is not the end of my baking journey. I'm not giving up! My dream is still alive, and I'm hoping that next year I'll open a new little cake shop – hopefully in the city centre or by the seaside.
