'We need some hope that the treatment does work' - Inspiring young mum battling cancer shares incredible news she is in remission

Ashleigh Palmer, 30, was diagnosed with stage 2 Lymphocyte-rich classical Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in August, despite showing no signs of feeling unwell.

After discovering a painless lump on her collar bone in May, she decided to see a doctor and was referred to Sunderland Royal Hospital for an ultrasound in July.

Further tests led to Ashleigh’s diagnosis and in September she began to undergo chemotheraphy at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

Throughout her cancer journey, the Washington mum-of-three has shared her story to encourage others to get checked.

And now Ashleigh is sharing the incredible news that she is in remission in a bid to bring hope to others dealing with a similar diagnosis that treatment can work.

Ashleigh, who is mum to Travis, seven, Austin, three, and Felicity, two, is now halfway through her chemotheraphy treatment, having undergone six cycles.

She now hopes to ring the bell to mark the end of her treatment and being cancer free on February 7.

Ashleigh said: “I am now in remission for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma which means that the treatment is working and the cancer is getting smaller.

“Treatment has been gruelling – both physically with the likes of hair loss and weight gain from the steroids and emotionally – it has been hard.

“But I am trying to make the most of the good days.”

With six cycles of chemotheraphy remaining, Ashleigh is now receiving it via a Hickman Line through her neck and chest.

Ashleigh, who is married to Stewart Palmer, said she wants her story to spread a message of hope to others facing a similar diagnosis.

She continued: “When I was told I am in remission it didn’t register – it took a few days to really think that this treatment is working.

“With so much negativity in the world around cancer thought I'd share a little joy, hope and inspiration around.

“We need some hope that the treatment does work.

“Yes it's awful and has horrendous side effects but it's life saving.

“I am really happy and my family are over the moon.”
