Restaurant hits out after 40 no shows in less than 90 minutes
More than 100 people who had booked a table at Martino's in Seaham had not turned up in recent days.
The restaurant, on North Railway Street, said that it had experienced 40 no shows in the space of an hour and 20 minutes after opening on Monday, August 24.
Management went on to say that last week, they experienced over 100 people not turning up for their bookings over three days.
Now people who wish to book a table on days when the Eat Out to Help Out deal is on will be asked for a deposit.
Customers were also warned that if they cannot be reached with the number left at the time of booking then the table will be made available for other diners.
A post on the restaurant’s Facebook page said: “We have had 40 no shows tonight and we have only been open one hour 20 minutes.
"As a result of this we will be contacting all customers booked for Tuesday and Wednesday to ask for a deposit as we really can't afford to lose so much business at this difficult time.
"If we are unable to contact you with the number left at booking, unfortunately we will have to make the table available for someone else.
"We are really sorry for the inconvenience, but last week we had over 100 no shows in three days which had a huge impact on our takings.”
