Customers were also warned that if they cannot be reached with the number left at the time of booking then the table will be made available for other diners.

A post on the restaurant’s Facebook page said: “We have had 40 no shows tonight and we have only been open one hour 20 minutes.

"As a result of this we will be contacting all customers booked for Tuesday and Wednesday to ask for a deposit as we really can't afford to lose so much business at this difficult time.

"If we are unable to contact you with the number left at booking, unfortunately we will have to make the table available for someone else.

"We are really sorry for the inconvenience, but last week we had over 100 no shows in three days which had a huge impact on our takings.”
