Epic Games have announced a new ‘Galactus’ live event to take place within the virtual world of massively popular Battle Royale game, Fortnite.

The game is broken up into ‘seasons’ which last several months, with the start of each new season marked by in-game live events.

The next in-game event will herald the conclusion of the current ‘Nexus War’ fourth season, signal the start of Season 5, and introduce players to Marvel supervillain, Galactus.

Here is everything you need to know about the latest.

What will happen in the Galactus live-event?

"It was only a matter of time,” the studio has said, “Galactus is closing in on the Island and the fate of all Reality lies in the balance.

“With everything in the balance, this is an event you don’t want to miss."

Galactus is a character within the Marvel universe; he first appeared in the Fantastic Four line of comics in 1966.

A cosmic entity who consumes entire planets to sustain his life force, the appearance of the super villain should be a fitting end to Fortnite’s Season 4, which has been themed around Marvel’s vast roster of heroes.

Will there be a new Fortnite map?

It’s thought that Galactus’ arrival could spell doom for the current Fortnite map, similar to the live event that triggered a black hole within the game last year.

Those who logged in to Fortnite in October 2019 saw the virtual island where the game takes place hit by a meteor shower before the entire map appeared to be sucked into the black hole.

Following the event, anyone logging in to the game was presented with a live stream of the black hole and no way of playing – the official Fortnite Twitter account also deleted all of its tweets apart from a live stream of the black hole.

Fortnite boss Donald Mustard discussed his plans for the next few years of the game's meta ‘story’ on the official This Week in Marvel podcast, revealing last year's black hole event actually saw Galactus' arrival to the game.

"We had this moment in Fortnite which happened around a year ago where... the Zero Point reorganised all the matter around the island and kind of created this new island," he said..

"That's the moment that attracted Galactus. [He] felt this re-organising of reality and was like 'huh, there's this energy source at the centre of everything and if I can consume that, I can consume not just the Marvel reality but I can consume everything.'"

Indeed, the event could bring with it a massive new update to Fortnite, and Mustard has previously revealed the Galactus event will be the biggest Fortnite event; data-miners have confirmed the size of the Galactus event files to be over 4GB in size.

What does the new skin look like?

Originally, dataminers and leakers made a pact not to spoil anything from the event, but one has broken ranks to give fans an early look at the Galactus skin.

It’s not yet known if the skin will be available to all following the event, or if it will just be used for a non-playable character in the moment, but it’s certainly an enticing prospect.

When does the Galactus live event take place?

The “ultimate fight against Galactus” takes place on Tuesday 1 December.

What time is the Galactus live event in Fortnite?

The one-time only Nexus War finale event will take place at 9pm in the UK.

Epic Games say it has taken measures to ensure the greatest number of players possible can attend the event.

But the studio is still recommending you log in at least 60 minutes prior to the event start to ensure your place; the event playlist is expected to go live 30 minutes prior to the start time.

When does Season 5 begin?

The next in-game event signals the start of Season 5, and so it figures that the next season will also begin on 1 December.

That's assuming this in-game event doesn’t take the game ‘offline’ like the Black Hole event of last year did.

Leakers have revealed that there may be downtime similar to what was seen after that event, but hopefully that won’t last for over 48 hours.

Whenever the game is playable again following the conclusion of the Galactus event, that is when Season 5 will begin.
