Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: what time the COD season 5 update is available in the UK - and how to download it for PS4, Xbox One, and PC

The latest big update for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and its free-to-play counterpart, Warzone is nearly upon us as Season 5 rounds the corner.

There are only a few hours left to finish up the Season 4 Battle Pass – which will unlock you the Nightfall Captain Price skin and the Emissary Assault Rifle Kilo Blueprint – before a raft of changes comes to the game.

As is often the case, it likely won’t be until the update officially launches that we’ll know exactly what it brings to the table, but as usual, there are plenty of rumours flying around pertaining to what we might see.

Developers Infinity Ward are touting Season 5 as one of the most major updates to Warzone’s map since the game first released.

What’s happening with the stadium?

A teaser trailer released to herald the arrival of Season 5 revealed that a large-scale explosion has rocked the game world’s stadium location, literally blowing the roof off the place and allowing players free roam of the interior.

This is exciting for a number of reasons, and first and foremost gives players an expansive new interior location to explore.

Players will be able to drop in to the stadium directly now that its roof has been demolished, and the trailer showcased multi-tiered levels of seating and shops that were previously inaccessible.

That's sure to open up a lot of new combat possibilities and scenarios - ones that will keep players engaged as Season 5 rolls on.

How does the loot train work?

Another new confirmed feature is the loot train.

This armoured freight train will snake around the game’s Verdansk map, and if you’re skilful enough to board it – either by dropping on to it directly or clamboring aboard mid-match – you’ll find it loaded with some pretty tasty loot.

It can also be used as a means of travelling around the map in a speedy manner, although where its set path is likely to take players is unknown; here's hoping it’ll drop us off at some high-loot locations.

Of course, being an armoured, unstoppable locomotive means it also plays a new function in gameplay.

Get in its way and the loot try will undoubtedly take you out of the game; the trailer shows an armoured 4x4 exploding into flames in the path of the new rail-based menace.

What is weapon inspecting?

Fans have been crying out for weapon inspecting to be introduced to the game, and now it’s been confirmed that the long-awaited feature will be making its way in Season 5.

There are no real gameplay benefits to weapon inspecting per se, but it is a neat little trick that allows you to view your customisable weapon up close.

It looks like players will be able to press a button to trigger a unique animation of their player inspecting their gun, giving them an up close look at what kind of heat they’re packing.

What else is new?

The trailer also showcased new ziplines that appear to be located around the stadium area and some of the map’s skyscrapers.

It looks like they’ve been introduced to allow players faster access to high-elevation areas where snipers are likely to camp, and provide transportation to hard-to-reach spots that otherwise would have only been accessible via helicopter.

Alongside those, players can expect new multiplayer maps for Modern Warfare, as well as new operators and cosmetics delivered through the Season 5 Battle Pass.

When does Season 5 begin?

It's been confirmed that Season 5 of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone will begin on Wednesday 5 August.

It will be available across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

It appears as though the update time has been confirmed for 11pm PT in the US on 4 August – that equates to 7am BST on 5 August for players in the UK.

A message from Activision to PlayStation 4 players gave some idea on just how hefty downloading the update will be.

Players will need “to store the previous update from June and have space for the August update.

"Approximately 120 GB of free space will be required,” they say, although the final file size will be much smaller once all updates have finalised.
