Transfer news: Sunderland and Leeds United handed boost in £7m midfielder race as Wolves set to miss out

Sunderland have been linked with Yacine Titraoui in recent weeks, as have Wolves and Leeds United.

The agents of Sunderland-linked midfielder Yacine Titraoui are reportedly reluctant to sanction a transfer to Premier League rivals Wolves due to the likelihood of the Midlands club being relegated to the Championship this season, potentially aiding the Black Cats in their bid to sign the player.

Claims emerged earlier this month suggesting that Regis Le Bris’ men made an attempt to sign the Algerian international from Belgian outfit Sporting Charleroi last year, only to be thwarted in their efforts by his current employers.

Nevertheless, it has been stated that a move to England could still be on the cards for Titraoui, who has scored four goals and assisted two more from the centre of midfield across 31 outings in all competitions this term. The 22-year-old is reportedly represented by a major English agency, and the prospect of a Premier League transfer continues to be touted.

For their part, Charleroi are hoping to make a significant profit on any deal for the talent, especially if he ends up completing a switch to England. The Belgian side would not receive the full amount of any fee for the player, however, as AC Paradou, his former club, secured a substantial sell-on fee, believed to be around 25%, as part of the agreement that took him from Algeria to Europe in 2024.

What is the latest on Yacine Titraoui’s situation amid Sunderland transfer links?

And according to a fresh update from Africa Foot, should Titraoui indeed seal a switch to England, it is unlikely to be with Wolves. That’s because his agents are said to be unwilling to consider an approach from a club who, more likely than not, will be playing their football in the second tier next term.

At the time of writing, Rob Edwards’ side are propping up the Premier League table, 17 points from safety with just 10 matches left to play this season. Barring a miraculous escape, the expectation is that Wanderers will be drop out of the top flight in the near future.

By contrast, Titraoui is understood to be seeking a “sporting project at the highest level”, and as such, despite Wolves making a concrete attempt to sign him recently, he and his representatives have soundly quelled any prospect of him moving to Molineux.

That, in turn, could be great news for Sunderland and Leeds United, who are both understood to be monitoring the player ahead of the summer transfer window. Should either side look to push ahead with a swoop for Titraoui over the coming months, it is suggested that they will have to pay upwards of £7 million, the asking price Charleroi are reportedly demanding.
