The Black Cats travel to face Spennymoor Town on Saturday, July 3 but the game will only be attended by home supporters with tickets sold to Spennymoor season card holders on a first come, first served basis.

SAFC has explained why there won’t be any Sunderland fans able to watch the game in a statement, it follows discussions between both clubs.

A club statement read: “Sunderland AFC supporters will not be able to attend the club’s pre-season friendly at Spennymoor Town.

“Following Monday’s announcement by the Government, the club entered into discussions with Spennymoor and the local authorities, including the DCMS, and it has been determined that the capacity will be capped at 1,122.

“Tickets will be available to Spennymoor Town season card holders only on a first come, first served basis.”
