The Black Cats will return to League One action this weekend with supporters keen to see which – if any – of the shining lights from the defeats to Mansfield and Fleetwood will feature.
So who could be in contention, and who may have to wait for another chance? We take a look:
9. DAN NEIL
Sunderland supporters have long been calling for Dan Neil to be involved in the first-team, and with just cause. His first half display against Fleetwood was excellent and he’s another who you feel could add another dimension to the Black Cats. He’s battling experienced players for a place, but must surely be in Parkinson’s thoughts. VERDICT: In contention for MK Dons Photo: FRANK REID 2020
10. JACK DIAMOND
At times in the first half at Fleetwood, Diamond was Sunderland’s best outlet. He’s direct, dynamic and a real attacking threat. With Luke O’Nien have picked up an injury last week, he’s a name that could feature this weekend. VERDICT: In contention for MK Dons Photo: FRANK REID 2020
11. CALLUM McFADZEAN
McFadzean was arguably the best performer across the two games, impressing against Mansfield before netting at Fleetwood. He still faces an uphill battle to usurp Denver Hume’s place in the side, but is a name who will surely come under consideration for Saturday (if he’s fit, that is). 12. AIDEN O'BRIEN
The former Millwall man was always a willing runner at Fleetwood, but struggled to make a profound impact on the game. He may have to wait for another opportunity to show what he can bring to this Sunderland side. VERDICT: May have to wait for another opportunity Photo: FRANK REID 2020
