13. Edwin Zoetebier
The Dutch stopper was signed in 1997 as backup to Lionel Perez, with Sunderland parting with £1million for his services. Zoetebier failed to make a single appearance for the Black Cats and subsequently returned to the Netherlands after just one season on Wearside - joining Feyenoord. Photo: Stuart Franklin
Cunningham signed for Sunderland in 2006 with Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn praising his leadership qualities. But made 11 appearances for the Black Cats as they won the Championship, but no more appearances after October when he was made captain by manager Roy Keane before sustaining an injury. A French defensive midfielder, Basilla’s time at Sunderland was ravaged by injuries and he made just 13 appearances during the 2005/06 season.
