From the bizarre to the brilliant, the Black Cats have brought a number of players into the Academy of Light on a temporary basis over the last few years.
We’ve rounded-up some of the more forgettable and fascinating names, but how many can you remember? Scroll down and click through the pages – and let us know if you saw any in action:
9. Patrick Peter
Another forgettable name was that of Romanian youngster Peter, who headed to North America with the Black Cats in 2013. The teenager has failed to make a real impact on the game since, though. Photo: Matthew Lewis
10. Marco Amelia
The stopper counts Chelsea and AC Milan among his former clubs, but couldn't win a deal at Sunderland in 2016. The Black Cats instead signed Mika, while Amelia turned his hand to coaching - where he most recently managed Serie D side Vastese. Photo: Valerio Pennicino
11. James McFadden
McFadden isn't exactly a forgettable name, but it's easy to forget that he joined Sunderland on trial in 2012 before penning a three-month deal. Photo: Stu Forster
12. Emmanuel Eboue
Sam Allardyce drafted in the full-back to add some cover as Sunderland fought relegation, with Eboue having impressed on trial. He didn't make an appearance on Wearside through, after the Ivorian was handed a one-year ban from football after failing to pay a former agent. Photo: AFP
