The transfer window is set to reopen this month – with Sunderland looking to bolster their squad.
The Black Cats will be assessing all positions, with central midfield and up front key areas where they will be looking to strengthen. Of course, Sunderland will be looking to sign players permanently, yet they could also find value in the loan market – as they have done in the past.
Here are nine Premier League players who could be available on loan this summer who the Black Cats could look at:

1. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi (Crystal Palace)
A player who Sunderland were linked with last summer, with Palace opting to keep the winger at Selhurst Park. Rak-Sakyi made just six Premier League appearances during the 2023/24 season, though, after a lengthy injury setback. 2. Will Lankshear (Tottenham)
Someone Sunderland will be well aware of after he scored twice against the Black Cats’ under-21s side in the final of Premier League 2 last month. The 19-year-old netted 23 goals in total for Spurs’ under-21s side during the 2023/24 campaign. Photo: Shaun Botterill

3. Tim Iroegbunam (Aston Villa)
Sunderland are short of options in central midfield, particularly players who can play in a deeper role. Iroegbunam made 32 Championship appearances while on loan at QPR during the 2022/23 season but has only made nine league appearances for Villa over the last year. Another loan move may benefit the 20-year-old, who has also represented England’s under-20s side. Photo: Alex Davidson

4. Ali Al-Hamadi (Ipswich)
After joining Ipswich from AFC Wimbledon in January, the 22-year-old striker helped Kieran McKenna’s side get over the promotion line, scoring four goals in 14 Championship appearances. Al-Hamadi may not be a regular starter in the Premier League, though, and may look for a loan move away in pursuit of more regular first-team football. Photo: Stephen Pond
