The Black Cats will be looking to make new additions ahead of next season, while some players are set to leave the club before the start of the next campaign.
We’ve taken a closer look at every Sunderland player’s situation – including the players who are out on loan - and what to expect this summer.
9. Joe Anderson
Since joining Sunderland from Everton in January, the 22-year-old has played more games for the Black Cats’ under-21s side. Sunderland will see Anderson as a long-term signing after offering him on a three-and-a-half-year deal, with a club option of a further year, and may sanction a loan move in the summer to aid his development. 10. Bailey Wright
Despite signing a new two-year deal at Sunderland in the summer, Wright joined Rotherham on loan in January due to his lack of game time. A permanent move away now seems likely this summer due to the Black Cats’ other defensive options. Photo: Frank Reid
11. Aji Alese
A thigh injury means the defender won’t play again this season, after making 20 Championship appearances. Sunderland will hope he’s back for pre-season and is able to kick on following an impressive start to his Black Cats career. Photo: Frank Reid
12. Dennis Cirkin
Cirkin will enter the final year of his contract this summer, with Sunderland keen to offer him a longer deal. The 20-year-old reportedly has a buy-back clause in his deal following his move from Tottenham in 2021, though it’s not thought Spurs are considering that option. Photo: Frank Reid
