Sunderland confirm Harrison Jones exit as midfielder completes League One transfer
Sunderland youngster Harrison Jones has joined Peterborough United on a permanent basis
Harrison Jones has joined League One side Peterborough United on a permanent deal.
The boyhood Sunderland fan has been a prominent part of the U21 side in the last few years while also training regularly with the senior group. Jones made his senior debut for the club in the 2024/25 campaign and was named in a number of matchday squads last season.
Sunderland recently exercised their option to extend the midfielder's contract for another season, but had already informed the youngster he was free to pursue other opportunities this summer. While no fee has been disclosed, it's understood Sunderland will be protected financially should Jones go on to be a success at Peterborough and move on again.
A club statement said: "Sunderland AFC can confirm that Harrison Jones has joined Peterborough United on a permanent deal.
"Jones, a boyhood Sunderland fan, came through the Club’s youth ranks, and captained the U21 side in the Premier League Cup Final in May. He also enjoyed experience at first-team level over the last two seasons, making his Sunderland debut in February 2025, coming off the bench in a 2-1 away victory over Sheffield Wednesday.
"All at Sunderland wish Harrison the best of luck with the next steps of his career."
Peterborough United manager Luke Williams said he was 'delighted' that the youngster had agreed to the move.
"Harrison is an ambitious and talented young player who has had a great start to his career at Sunderland, with first team experience and being in and around the first team for a couple of years," Williams said.
"He had a lot of different options for the next stage of his career so we are delighted that he has chosen us and we are looking forward to working with him."

Harrison Jones reacts to Sunderland exit and Peterborough United switch
Jones said: "It has all happened quite quickly, but when I heard of the interest, it was definitely something that excited me.
"I have been at Sunderland since I was very young, so it was always going to be a difficult decision to leave, but I know that it was the right time to get out and play football. I would describe myself as a versatile midfielder, I can play in a number of different roles, at Sunderland you are encouraged to play in different positions. They taught me a lot about humility at Sunderland, I learned a lot from my time there.
"There are a lot of big clubs in League One, but we are a big club too and I can't wait to get started. It was really important to get things done before pre-season and now I can look forward to coming in and meeting everyone."
