Sunderland returned to Premier League action with a trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace. With the Black Cats continuing their early journey back in the top flight, all eyes were on how Régis Le Bris’ side would perform away from home. The travelling fans once again turned out in force, backing their team in numbers in the capital.
As ever, the focus quickly turned to individual displays across the pitch, with big performances needed at both ends as Sunderland looked to make their mark. From the new signings settling into life in the Premier League to the established squad members adjusting to the demands of top-flight football, there was plenty to keep an eye on throughout the afternoon.
Here are our Sunderland player ratings from their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park:

9. LW: Simon Adingra
Simon Adingra looked really lively towards the back end of the first half and created a good chance for Talbi. Combined well with Sadiki at times. Subbed in the second half for Brian Brobbey after a good shift. The winger was solid in his defensive duties, too. 7 | Sunderland's Simon Adingra. Photo by Chris Fryatt.

10. RW: Chemsdine Talbi
Chemsdine Talbi could have put Sunderland ahead in the first half, but took too long with his goal attempt. Grew into the game in the second half. Did well defensively when called upon. 6 | Sunderland's Chemsdine Talbi. Photo by Chris Fryatt.

11. ST: Wilson Isidor
Wilson Isidor had little in the way of clear-cut chances but fashioned himself several half opportunities during the game. Caused problems for Palace's defence with his running, but was handed a rough task up against three quality centre-backs. Shifted over to the left wing in the second half after Brobbey's introduction. A good display from the attacker. 7 | Getty Images

12. SUB: Brian Brobbey
Came on in the second half for his debut off the bench, replacing Adingra. Didn't really get into the game but showed some nice touches and helped out defensively towards the end of the game. 6 | Getty Images
