Sunderland climbed into the top half of the Premier League with a crucial and deserved win against Spurs.
Though Nordi Mukiele benefited from a huge deflection to put his side ahead in the second half, Regis Le Bris’s side were worthy of the three points on a day when they spurned some big chances and limited Spurs to little.
Here’s how we rated all 14 of the Black Cats involved on the day...
1. GK - Robin Roefs
Made a couple of really good stops, particularly from Solanke at close range just before the half time interval. Dealt with set pieces well and mostly good with his distribution. 7 | Robin Roefs. Photo by Frank Reid.
2. RB - Nordi Mukiele
A big slice of luck for his goal but rewarded for his adventuring drive forward and willingness to take a shot. Took up really aggressive positions that caused Spurs problems. Defended superbly in the second half. Brings so much energy and personality to this side. 8 | Chris Fryatt
3. CB - Luke O'Nien
Had a strong game. Slid in on Muani midway through the first half but a penalty was rightly overturned on VAR review. Didn’t put a foot wrong otherwise, playing out well and landing some key challenges. 7 | Luke O'Nien at Everton. Photo by Chris Fryatt.
4. CB - Omar Alderete
Another top performance from the in-form centre back. Defensively dominant against Solanke and used the ball consistently well. 8 | Sunderland's Omar Alderete. Photo by Chris Fryatt.
