Sunderland midfielder Edouard Michut has been linked with a surprise move to Newcastle United.

Michut is currently on-loan at the Stadium of Light having joined the Black Cats from PSG in the summer. According to Sky Sports, Newcastle and RB Leipzig have enquired about Michut with a view to signing the 19-year-old at the end of the season.

Michut’s loan expires in summer with Leipzig and the Magpies ‘monitoring’ his progress on Wearside. After an injury-hit start to life at the club, the Frenchman has featured in Sunderland’s last three league games and played 81 minutes of their FA Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town.

Earlier this month, Michut spoke about training alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe whilst at PSG: “I trained for one year with Messi and Mbappe, two of the very best.” Michut said. “There is no end to what you can learn from these players. Their success inspires you as a young player to achieve as much as possible.”
