The Black Cats are on an impressive run having lost just once in 18 games in all competitions.

Indeed, Sunderland are sitting in third position in League One with 67 points from 36 games but have games in hand against promotion rivals Peterborough United and Hull City.

And Lee Johnson has restored Jordan Jones to the starting XI following an injury, with Conor McLaughlin starting in defence.

Here, we take a look at how Sunderland fans reacted to today’s teamsheet on social media:

@GazJ2K: “Gooch should be dropped but other than that a good team and bench. Haway the lads.”

@nicholaswilso11: “Harsh on Winchester and O’Brien.”

@adampearson2002: “Bit harsh on Winchester and O’Brien but good team none the less.”

Jordan Jones of Sunderland celebrates scoring their second goal during the Sky Bet League One match between Portsmouth and Sunderland at Fratton Park.

@GazJFisher: “Wouldn’t have dropped the two lads who have come out! I’d of dropped Gooch and Scowen.”

@bamgboyeolu: “Bit harsh dropping Winchester and O’Brien.”

@JacobKirkbride: “I’m sorry but what has Winchester and O’Brien done to be taken out of the starting line up like personally I think Power at right back would be more effective than him in the middle today but delighted to see Jordan Jones back.”

@JamieJoslyn1: “Obviously great to have Jones back in but a bit harsh on Winchester and O'Brien to be dropped, team has a decent balance to it though and plenty attacking options off the bench #SAFC”

@DavidHindmarsh7: “Dropping Aiden O’Brien after last weekend is unbelievably harsh, but hopefully he’s just resting him for Monday. Middle 2 with Scowen in again, always makes me nervous”
