Sunderland signed three new players during the January transfer window – yet some members of the first-team squad are into the final year of their contracts.
Callum Styles, Leo Hjelde and Romaine Mundle all arrived on Wearside last month, while other players were allowed to leave on permanent or loan deals. The Black Cats have also been able to agree new deals with several of their first-team players over the last year.
Here’s a list of Sunderland’s senior players, including those out on loan, and when their deals are set to expire:

9. Jack Clarke - Summer of 2026
Sunderland have turned down offers for Clarke over the last two transfer windows. The 23-year-old joined The Black Cats permanently on a four-year deal from Tottenham in 2022. Photo: Frank Reid

10. Jewison Bennette - Summer of 2026
The 19-year-old winger signed a four-year deal, with a club option of a further year, at Sunderland when he joined the club from Costa Rican side Herediano in 2022. Bennette joined Greek side Aris FC on loan in January but made just two appearances for the club. Photo: Frank Reid

11. Simon Moore - Summer of 2026
Following the end of his contract at Coventry, Moore, 34, signed a two-year contract at Sunderland, with a club option of a further year. Photo: Stu Forster

12. Nathan Bishop - Summer of 2026
Moore's arrival has allowed Bishop to join League One side Wycombe on loan. The goalkeeper has two years left on his Sunderland contract. Photo: Frank Reid
