Sunderland began their Europa League campaign with a 1-0 win of AZ Alkmaar.
Enzo Le Fee’s penalty proved the difference in a good game against strong opposition. Here’s how we rated all the Black Cats involved on the night...
1. GK - Robin Roefs
Excellent showing. Made two huge saves in either half when AZ looked certain to score and that was crucial to the win. 8 | Getty Images
2. RB - Nordi Mukiele
Defensively dominant and a threat going forward as he always is. 7 | Getty Images
3. CB - Kevin Danso
An experienced player but still so impressive how quickly he has settled into the XI. Was excellent here, his footwork very good and his defensive work pretty much flawless. 8 | Sunderland AFC
4. CB - Omar Alderete
Booked after making a couple of late challenges in the first half, and so it was no surprise that he was brought off early into the second. Was good in the air, though, and pretty tidy in possession. 6 | Sunderland's Omar Alderete. Photo by Chris Fryatt.
