Sunderland were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw against QPR at the Stadium of Light after a late equaliser from Rangers goalkeeper Seny Dieng.

Alex Neil’s side took a two-goal lead in the first half courtesy of finishes from Ross Stewart and Ellis Simms.

The hosts looked like they would see the game out before Ilias Chair’s free-kick halved the deficit.

Dieng then headed home an equaliser after coming up for a corner in stoppage-time.

Here’s how the game played out.

42’ Wide from Dykes

Another half chance for QPR after Johansen’s cross is turned wide by Dykes.

What a first half this has been.

Simms managed to hold the ball up on the edge of QPR’s box before knocking it back to Pritchard.

Johansen’s tackle went back into the path of the Sunderland striker who slotted the ball past Deng.

2-0!

Sunderland have been the better team here but Rangers still have quality going forward.

Chair’s in-swinging cross was poked towards goal by Dykes but the effort was straight at Patterson.

Dickie has also been booked for a late challenge on Stewart.

Sunderland lead!

More good work from Pritchard who found space on the edge of the box and set up Neil.

The latter’s side-footed shot was saved by Deng before Stewart converted the rebound.

1-0!

Now Gooch has gone down after being caught by Adomah inside the Sunderland box.

The home fans are letting their feelings known after Field tried to stop Neil with a heavy challenge near the halfway line.

More good play from Sunderland after Clarke broke down the left before his cross was blocked by Kakay.

The visitors dealt with the following corner.

Clarke has also been shown the first yellow card of the match.

20’ O’Nien in defence

O’Nien has slotted straight into Ballard’s position on the right of a back three.

QPR are just starting to apply some more pressure and get on the ball a bit more.

14’ Another chance

It’s been mostly Sunderland so far.

Another good move saw Simms set up Pritchard on the edge of the box but Dunne threw himself at the ball to block the latter’s effort.

Then at the other end, Adomah headed over from Shodipo’s cross.

12’ Simms shot saved

This has been a bright start from Sunderland aside from the Ballard injury.

That was a neat move from the hosts after Pritchard’s clipped pass was headed down by Stewart and Simms’ shot was straight at the keeper.
