Jack Clarke opened the scoring just before the hour mark when he cut in from the right and fired a shot into the top corner.

What to make of those sides
So it’s three changes from the Sunderland side which started at QPR on Tuesday.
Dan Neil, Edouard Michut and Amad are all recalled to the starting XI, with Alex Pritchard, Abdoullah Ba and Luke O’Nien dropping to the bench.
It looks like Amad will return to the No 10 position with Patrick Roberts and Jack Clarke on the flanks.
Bristol City have made two changes following their 1-1 draw against Wigan in midweek.
Sam Bell and Mark Sykes return to the side in place of Andi Weimann and Harry Cornick who drop to the bench.
4’ Ballard down
Ballard is down after Atkinson ran through the middle of the pitch and was eventually stopped by the Sunderland defender.
Ballard is back on his feet now as Bristol City have a free-kick.
7’ Gelhardt shot blocked
Sunderland are starting to come into the game now, with Roberts and Amad playing a neat one-two on the right.
The former then passed the ball to Gelhardt whose shot was blocked by Vyner on the edge of the box.
13’ Wide from James
Both sides have tried to get the ball down and play in the early exchanges, with James firing a low shot wide from the edge of Sunderland’s box.
Now Atkinson has gone down for Bristol City.
