Sunderland’s preparations for the 2024/25 campaign are officially underway.
The players reported back for pre-season testing on Friday and began their training programme today, which was also Régis Le Bris’ first day officially in charge of the Black Cats. Sunderland will now have a solid two-week training block before the squad splits for friendlies against Gateshead and South Shields, with the pre-season tour of Spain to follow. Here, we run through the state of play with every player currently in Le Bris’ senior squad and make a summer transfer window prediction for each and every one...

21. Adil Aouchiche
Is well known to Le Bris after their time together at FC Lorient, though he was not a regular before leaving for Sunderland. Looks set to play an important role this season after gradually working his way into the side towards the end of the last campaign. Has quality and the knack of getting in good positions, but needs to improve his goal contributions. All the same, one of a few who Sunderland hope and believe fans will see more of having had a season to settle at the club and adjust to the Championship. | Getty Images Photo: Getty Images

22. Elliot Embleton
Is fit to start pre season, which hopefully is the break he needs after an immensely difficult 18 months with injury. Wants to play regularly so a loan or a permanent exit has to be an option, but his preference will be to earn his place at Sunderland and he has the ability and versatility to do that if he can stay fit. | Frank Reid Photo: Frank Reid

23. Jobe Bellingham
Early summer interest in Bellingham has been significant, with Sunderland knocking back a number of bids from Crystal Palace. With three years left on his deal Sunderland are standing firm and want at least £20 million. Club are very keen for him to stay, as they believe he can go to another level after his first full season at senior level. In theory, though, his departure is very much possible if he decides he wants to pursue top-level football now. If he stays, one of the interesting subplots of pre-season will be to see if he continues up front or drops back into a more withdrawn role. | Getty Images Photo: Getty Images

24. Patrick Roberts
Sunderland are hopeful that Roberts will recapture his best form this season after a frustrating end to the last campaign. Has a massive part to play, especially as the club look to take the burden off Jack Clarke on the other flank - and especially with Clarke's future still somewhat uncertain. | Frank Reid Photo: Frank Reid
