Sunderland Under-23s conceded a last-gasp winner against Norwich Under-23s as the young Black Cats were beaten 4-3 at the Academy of Light.

Elliott Dickman handed starts to the likes of Benji Kimpioka, Ellis Taylor and Oliver Younger for the Premier League 2, Division 2, clash which turned into an action-packed contest.

Taylor, Will Harris and substitute Vinnie Steels got on the scoresheet for Sunderland but it wasn’t enough to secure the points as Norwich defender Jonathan Tomkinson headed home a late winner for the visitors.

The ball broke to Norwich defender Jon Tomkinson from a corner and the centre-back fired his shot over the bar when the ball fell to him.

Sunderland have looked vulnerable at the back.

It was a great strike - but Sunderland will be disappointed again.

A switch of play to the right found Gibson-Peters, who was allowed time on the ball by Newell, and the Norwich forward cut the ball back for Tony Springnett.

Springnett then fired the ball past Carney at the goalkeeper’s near post.

Carney palmed away the midfielder’s effort.

27’ Another chance for Norwich

Sunderland were caught out again at the back there as Norwich broke down the left but Kamara skewed his shot over from the edge of the box.

It came after Sunderland had another penalty appeal turned down when Younger appeared to be fouled from a corner. Nothing was given.
