9. Lynden Gooch
Had little chance to influence proceedings in front of goal but in fairness, he had little chance to. Gooch is dropping into a central midfield role at the moment and it’s hard to see how it gets the best out of his undoubted attacking talent. 5 Photo: Frank Reid
An afternoon that summer up his time as a Sunderland player so far. The Irishman was full of running, got himself in some excellent positions and brought others into play, but just couldn’t find the finish in front of goal when the chance came. 6 Photo: Frank Reid
Linked up with team-mates and held the ball up well, as you would expect. Had a glorious chance to get his league account up and running late in the first half, but fired his effort over the bar from just yards out. A big and ultimately key miss. 5 Photo: Frank Reid
His brief changed almost immediately after Flanagan’s red card, forced to drop much deeper to help his side. To his credit, he did it with no fuss and with some important interventions. 6 Photo: Frank Reid
