The Black Cats’ boss was on the road on Wednesday evening and, with a host of games taking place north and south of the border, he had his pick of exciting and available players to watch. But which potential January recruits could have been the subject of his attention? Here, we look at NINE players that the Sunderland chief could have been watching this week:
1. KIERNAN DEWSBURY-HALL (LEICESTER CITY)
An all-action midfielder with plenty of legs, Dewsbury-Hall impressed at the Stadium of Light earlier this term as he netted a stunning solo strike for the Foxes’ second string in the Leasing.com Trophy. He impressed again against Doncaster, and could be just what Sunderland need in their engine room - if Leicester City will allow him to leave on loan. Photo: Alex Pantling
2. JAMES SCOTT (MOTHERWELL)
The Black Cats are one of a number of clubs reportedly keen on the young Motherwell striker, who netted a brace during their 3-0 win over St Mirren on Wednesday evening. Parkinson could have been monitoring his progress ahead of a potential January deal. Photo: Ian MacNicol
3. BEN WHITEMAN (DONCASTER ROVERS)
The midfielder recently penned a new long-term deal at the Keepmoat Stadium, but that won’t stop a host of sides keeping an eye on the former Sheffield United ace. He’s a player who would certainly fit into Parkinson’s desired style of play and captained Rovers during their defeat to Leicester. Photo: George Wood
4. UCHE IKPEAZU (HEARTS)
A pacy and powerful strike, Ikpeazu is exactly the type of attacker that Parkinson is seeking in January. He came on as a second-half substitute for Hearts against Livingston and, given their struggles, a January move could prove appealing. Photo: Mark Runnacles
