The Black Cats’ boss was on the road on Wednesday evening and, with a host of games taking place north and south of the border, he had his pick of exciting and available players to watch. But which potential January recruits could have been the subject of his attention? Here, we look at NINE players that the Sunderland chief could have been watching this week:
5. GEORGE THOMAS (LEICESTER CITY)
Comfortable playing anywhere across the forward line or in midfield, Thomas spent last season on loan with Scunthorpe before returning to the Foxes - where he again impressed in their win over Doncaster. Sunderland could prove a logical step up for the Welsh international. Photo: Alex Pantling
6. TAHITH CHONG (MANCHESTER UNITED)
Highly-regarded at Old Trafford, Chong has been in and out of the first-team squad this term - but netted twice for United’s under-23 side against Tranmere Rovers. That suggests the young forward could certainly do a job in League One, but whether the Red Devils would sanction a loan move would have to be questioned. Photo: Ash Donelon
7. EAMONN BROPHY (KILMARNOCK)
Handed a first Scotland call-up earlier this year and supposedly attracting interest from Rangers, striker Brophy could well be on the Black Cats’ radar. He failed to find the net as Killie drew 0-0 with St Johnstone. Photo: Ian MacNicol
8. ADMIRAL MUSKWE (LEICESTER CITY)
The striker found the net twice in the 3-0 win over Doncaster, and may well have the pace and power Parkinson is seeking ahead of the January window. His lack of League One experience may be a concern though. Photo: Getty Images
