Phil Parkinson’s side brushed aside the Dale as they claimed what could prove to be a vital three points in the promotion race.
And while there were standout performances across the board, who really shone on Wearside? Scroll down and click through the pages to see how Phil Smith rated the displays on show against Rochdale:
9. Lynden Gooch
Superb composure in the final third once again, taking his chances and giving his side an unassailable early lead. Rochdale struggled to cope with his energy and movement in the final third. 8 Photo: FRANK REID 2019
10. Chris Maguire
Played a part in all three goals, pressing superbly and delivering crosses of real quality into the box. Dropped off after the break but in fairness his work was done by that stage. Tremendous attacking output again. 8 Photo: Frank Reid
11. Charlie Wyke
Led the press well in the early stages and did not give the Rochdale defence the time on the ball they craved. Little sight of goal throughout. 7 Photo: Frank Reid
12. Antoine Semenyo
One or two exciting runs lifted the crowd in what was a very sedate second half. 6 Photo: Frank Reid
