Phil Parkinson’s side brushed aside the Dale as they claimed what could prove to be a vital three points in the promotion race.
And while there were standout performances across the board, who really shone on Wearside? Scroll down and click through the pages to see how Phil Smith rated the displays on show against Rochdale:
5. Denver Hume
Caused so many problems for young full-back Luke Matheson, constantly finding space in advanced areas. Crossing was mixed but unlucky not to finish with an assist in the end. 7 Photo: FRANK REID
6. Luke O'Nien
Was a constant outlet for his side, getting into terrific positions down the right and combining superbly with Chris Maguire in front of him. A very strong contribution and unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. 8 Photo: Frank Reid
7. Max Power
Did not need to contribute a great deal in an attacking sense with Sunderland finding so much joy down the flanks, but protected the back three very well and didn’t put a foot wrong in a disciplined showing. 7 Photo: FRANK REID 2019
8. George Dobson
Another game that he grew into as it developed, one of the few in the second half to move the ball with tempo and penetration. Some very good switches of play throughout. 7 Photo: Frank Reid
