A fine first-half performance saw the hosts register a thumping win at the Stadium of Light, handing Parkinson his first three points since joining the club. But which players caught the eye in the dominant performance? Scroll down and click through the pages to see how our chief Sunderland AFC writer, Phil Smith, rated the individual performances in the League One triumph:
5. Denver Hume
An enterprising performance, causing problems with his driving runs forward on the ball. Clattered into tackles in defence, no doubt impressing his new manager. 7 Photo: Frank Reid
6. Max Power
A controlled display, particularly in the first half when he set the tempo and moved the ball quickly and precisely. Took the captain’s armband and performed well. 7 Photo: Frank Reid
7. George Dobson
Good energy in midfield, getting about the pitch well and allowing Power to dictate proceedings alongside him. 6 Photo: FRANK REID
8. Lynden Gooch
DId well in a slightly unfamiliar role off the left wing, choosing good moments to drift inside and leave space for Denver Hume to attack. Took his goal well, spotting the cross coming from Watmore and turning home with ease. Came off injured in the second half in one of the few concerns from the evening. 7 Photo: FRANK REID 2019
