9. 2009/10: Swindon Town

10. 2008/09: Millwall
Millwall yet again providing Sunderland with a model of bounceback-ability to follow, here. They lost at Wembley in 2009 but went up the next year. Finished the year after play-offs: 3rd (promoted via play-offs). Photo: Bryn Lennon
11. 2007/08: Leeds United
The Whites spent several years in League One but came agonisingly close to promotion in 2008, losing to Doncaster at Wembley. They suffered more play-off heartache the next year. Finished the year after play-offs: 4th. Photo: George Wood
12. 2006/07: Yeovil Town
Simon Grayson showed his play-off acumen with a triumph for Blackpool over Yeovil in 2007 - the Glovers going on to consolidate in the following campaign. Finished the year after play-offs: 17th Photo: Harry Trump
