Exclusive:Premier League defences warned 'phenomenal' Sunderland striker will only get better
Sunderland legend Kevin Phillips fires a warning to Premier League defences next season.
Brian Brobbey has been hailed a ‘phenomenal’ talent who will only get better next season amid a stark warning to Premier League defences.
The impact Brobbey has made at Sunderland since moving to Wearside from Dutch giants Ajax during the summer transfer window has been incredible, the powerful striker has proven to be a handful to top flight defences and scored seven goals including the late dramatic winner against Newcastle United.
Winning praise from his head coach, teammates, fans and pundits alike, Brobbey has led the line superbly for Sunderland as they finished 7th and qualified for the Europa League next season. Sunderland legend Kevin Phillips, who knows a thing or two about leading the Sunderland attack, has heaped praise on Brobbey and the impact he has made this season. And Super Kev is adamant he is only going to get better.

Phillips told the Echo: “I have been really, really impressed. I think he's got better and better and better. He had to be patient when he first came in. Obviously, Wilson Isidor was playing before him, but he never kicked up a fuss and what he did is what you want every good player and striker to do, is when you get your opportunity, take it and he did that.
“When I look at him, he's almost like that old-fashioned centre-forward. He relieves pressure when you're under pressure because he makes the ball stick and that, today, in the Premier League, doesn't happen too often. But he's chipped in with goals as well. He's a phenomenal striker and I guarantee every defender that comes up against him this season will think, wow, he's a handful.”
When quizzed on whether he thought there was even more to come, Phillips added: “Yes, I do. I think he will. He seems a really grounded person. I've met him a couple of times and he just loves his football and he is what he is. ”I’m not saying he's a dying breed, but he's that old-fashioned centre-forward which, in a team that does like to play football when it sticks, I think he can go on and be even better next season. I think this season has obviously clearly helped him as well.”
