We’ve been looking at which players we would retain, release and sign ahead of the new campaign (whenever that may be!).
But how does our final Sunderland AFC squad look? Scroll down and click through the pages to find out as we reveal the final 25-man squad we’ve built, that includes no fewer than SIX new recruits:
1. GK: Jon McLaughlin
An easy call. Providing the stopper is willing to stay on Wearside - as he has suggested in the past - then handing him a new deal should be a priority. Photo: FRANK REID 2019
2. GK: Lee Burge
Under contract until the summer of 2021, Burge looks set to remain at the Stadium of Light - and would prove a strong option whichever league Sunderland find themselves in next season. Photo: FRANK REID
3. DEF: Conor McLaughlin
While it hasn't been a dream debut campaign for McLaughlin, his versatility could prove useful for Phil Parkinson moving forward. He remains under contract until 2021. Photo: FRANK REID
4. DEF: Luke O'Nien
Now re-invented as a wing-back, O'Nien's future on Wearside looks assured. The club holds an option on his contract, meaning he is likely to stay with Sunderland until at least the summer of 2021. Photo: FRANK REID 2019
