Sunderland came from behind to claim a 1-1 draw against Millwall at The Den.

After a goalless first half, Lions defender Jake Cooper opened the scoring just before the hour mark after a corner.

The Black Cats then managed to equalise nine minutes from time when Alex Pritchard’s free-kick was converted by Dennis Cirkin.

Here’s how the game played out:

RECAP: Millwall 1 (Cooper, 59) Sunderland 1 (Cirkin, 81)

  • Sunderland XI: Patterson, Hume, Ballard, Batth, Alese (Cirkin, 67) (Anderson, 85), Neil, Michut, Roberts, Amad, Clarke (Pritchard, 63), Gelhardt (Ba, 89)

48’ Patterson collides with Watmore

Watmore was almost sent through on goal there after a ball over the top saw the forward run past Ballard.

Patterson then collided with the forward inside the Sunderland box, yet it looked like the ball had already gone.

Hume is booked for bringing down Watmore after Sunderland lost possession and the hosts looked to break on the counter attack.

Now Honeyman is down after a clash of heads with Alese.

54’ Honeyman back on his feet

Millwall had a corner but Cresswell headed his effort over the bar.

He may have got away with an error in the first half but Patterson has just made an excellent to deny Honeyman.

From the following corner Millwall have scored.

Cooper was on the ground as he flicked a shot towards goal which went in off the post.

Big task for Sunderland now.

Pritchard comes on for Sunderland in place of Clarke.

67’ SECOND SUNDERLAND CHANGE

ON: Cirkin

OFF: Alese

72’ Millwall looking comfortable

Sunderland are still seeing more of the ball but haven’t really posed much of a threat in this second half.

73’ Roberts chance

That was a fine run from Roberts through the middle of the pitch, before the playmaker’s shot was blocked by Cresswell inside the Millwall box.

Roberts could have perhaps played in Gelhardt to the left of him though.

Cresswell celebrated the block like a goal.

79’ Chance to seal it

That could have been game over as Watmore broke away and had Bradshaw to his right.

The former’s pass was just overhit as Neil managed to get back and make a tackle.
