The Black Cats have confirmed Alex Neil is in talks with Stoke City over their vacant manager’s job – but say they are trying to keep hold of him.

Neil has been given permission to speak to the Potters about the vacant position and is the clear favourite with bookmakers to take charge at the bet365 Stadium.

But how are fans reacting to the news? Here, we take a look:

@RokerEndDweller: “Personal line in the sand for me. Won’t be back. You can’t pick and chose when you get momentum on the pitch. Unforgivable- let’s not forget the mess of the last appointment and the lack of signings now.”

@adamguest: “Speakman out. It is on him.”

@jackdixon007: “The most mediocre job in football and he actually wants it?”

@C6_Steve: “Ah well. Here we go again. Keane, Allardyce and Sean Dyche will all be linked and we’ll end up with someone else.”

@benclarksafc99: “This has just made us clear that the people running the club are way out of their depth to let it get to this point. Disappointing for all of us fans again. Big kick in the teeth.”

@JamieeSAFC: “Unbelievable, nothing is ever simple with this club.”

@SAFCmelissa: “You have actually got to be joking. I feel sick.”
