Fabrizio Romano issues Amad Diallo update after shock Newcastle United transfer links
Fabrizio Romano has clarified Manchester United’s stance on Amad Diallo following surprise links with Newcastle United
Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on former Sunderland favourite Amad Diallo following surprise transfer links with Newcastle United.
Amad has reportedly attracted interest from several clubs this summer, with Newcastle among those credited with an interest in the Manchester United winger. However, Romano has now claimed United have no intention of allowing the Ivory Coast international to leave Old Trafford.
Writing on social media, Romano said: “Amad Diallo’s camp informed in June on Man United stance: no intention to sell this summer. “Despite links with several clubs, #MUFC mantain they want to keep and trust Amad.”
That stance would appear to make any potential move to St James’ Park extremely difficult, with Manchester United viewing Amad as an important part of their plans. The 24-year-old remains hugely popular on Wearside following his successful loan spell at Sunderland during the 2022-23 season.
Amad scored 14 goals in all competitions as Tony Mowbray’s side reached the Championship play-offs, producing several memorable moments and establishing himself as a firm favourite with supporters. Sunderland fans have continued to follow his progress closely since his return to Manchester, where he has gradually established himself as a regular first-team option.

The prospect of Amad joining Newcastle would therefore come as a major shock to many Sunderland supporters, given the affection that still exists between the player and the Wearside fanbase. For now, though, Romano’s update suggests Manchester United are determined to retain the winger and have already communicated that position to his representatives.
